That was a typo, it should be ln(150/100) /5 = 8.1%. ln(150/100) is the total rate over the entire time period (about 40%), and we divide by 5 to get the rate each year.

Hi Ajith, ln(150/100)/5 = 8.12% is the rate of return assuming continuous compounding. (150/100)^(1/5)-1 = 8.45% is the annualized rate of return without continuous compounding. Check out:
