You can’t use the Pythagorean Theorem with identical things, like the example you gave with temperatures of five days. To be easy, let’s do it with two days. Week 1 – Monday 80° Tuesday 70°,week 2 – Monday 70° Tuesday 80°.The Pythagorean Theorem says there is a difference of 14.14, but in fact there is no difference, both weeks experienced the same temperatures. Even if you are arguing that there’s a difference, you must agree that the difference is not as big as if week 2 would be – Monday 80° Tuesday 90°, but with the Pythagorean Theorem it is.
Maybe we can calculate the distance of either week to zero, and then see the difference between them. (With temperatures it’s difficult to find the zero.) But even then it is still much more useful to calculate the regular average by adding up all temperatures and then dividing into the amount of days.

You can’t do it with totally independent things either, they must be able to interact with each other. Physical dimensions interact with each other, they form diagonal dimensions. Colors interact too. But weight, height and age don’t. So you have to calculate them separately. The same is true with movie characters.
